Timecoding, quality-checking and proofreading existing transcripts
Vetting for this role
What we check before we shortlist a transcription & captioning.
General vetting isn't enough. These are the checks specific to this role, on top of the skill tests every applicant takes.
A real test file, not a résumé
We send a short, messy clip and read the transcript back against the audio. Accuracy and timing are what count.
Timecodes that line up
We play their captions on the video. Subtitles that drift out of sync don't make the shortlist.
The right style for the job
Verbatim, clean-read, legal, medical — different jobs need different rules. We shortlist people who have worked in yours.
Typical engagements
The three briefs we see most.
A few days per batch
One-off files
A set of recordings transcribed or captioned to a deadline, priced per audio minute or per file.
Ongoing, weekly
Regular output
A steady stream of podcasts, videos or interviews, with the same person who learns your names and style.
Monthly, part-time
Captioning and QA on call
Someone to caption new videos and quality-check transcripts as they come, without a full-time hire.
Typical ranges, not quotes. Your brief decides the scope and the timeline.
Transcription & captioning: questions
Before you hire.
Verbatim or clean-read — which do I need?
Verbatim keeps every um, pause and false start; clean-read removes them for readability. Tell us the use — subtitles, research, legal — and we'll shortlist people who work that way.
Can you deliver captions in SRT or VTT?
Yes. Tell us the format and the platform, and whether you need burned-in captions or a separate subtitle file. Timecoding is part of the job.
Can you handle more than one language?
Yes. Many people in the pool transcribe or subtitle in two or more languages, including translated subtitles. Put the languages in your brief.
